MU 499AA - Introduction to Schenkerian Analysis
This course introduces and explores the method and ideas employed by Heinrich Schenker (1868-1935), a central figure in music theory. Students will critically examine Schenker's writings, with particular attention to cultural contexts (then and now), and apply Schenkerian principles to their own analyses. ***Prerequisite: MUTH 422 or Instructor Permission.***
