PHIL 890AN - The Self and European Philosophy |
A study of recent attempts in France and Germany to move past postmodern declarations of the "death of the subject", and to philosophize in a substantive way about what the self is. Our main texts will be Paul Ricoeur's "Oneself as Another" and Ernst Tugendhat's "Self-Consciousness and Self-Determination."
