This directed readings course focuses on historical and contemporary issues related to worker rights, such as, social unionism, campaigns for a living wage and better working conditions (e.g., protection for so-called gig workers), occupational health and safety, and the promise and limits of legal protections for worker rights. Materials will be historical and contemporary and global in focus. Topics include political economy, leadership for movement building, theory and practice of unions, work and workers in a global world, and law and policies.
