| ENGL 480AM - Conscience as the Gift of Death |

This course examines the structure of conscience as the crucial definition of the modern subject. The event of death, and sacrifice (or what Jacques Derrida calls "the gift of death") radically change the meaning of moral responsibility. Students will explore the act of (moral) decision-making as an "instant of madness."
***Prerequisite: ENGL 100 and either ENGL 110 or the completion of 48 credit hours.***
*Note: This course is intended for ENGL Honours students. Students who are not ENGL Honours students require permission of the Department Head to register.*
*Note: Students may receive credit for one of ENGL 480AL or ENGL 817AL.*
