ANTH 242AM - Marking the Body: An Anthropology of Tattooing
This course explores the practice of permanently marking the body by tattooing, scarification, etc. Taking as its starting point Polynesian tattoo traditions, this course investigates the social, cultural, aesthetic, and other dimensions of marking the human body, and how practitioners and scholars have attempted to understand and explain these practices. ***Prerequisite: ANTH 100 or completion of 12 credit hours or permission of the Department Head.***
